Here is my OGR for Invisible Cities, unfortunately I could not complete all of the cities but will be getting the ones I could not do done before the end of the Project.

    Hey George,

Interestingly, you've picked up on Moriana's Utopia/Dystopia factor in a way that some of your classmates missed originally - perhaps they too were seduced by Moriana's more obvious charms! I'm just going to share the feedback I left with Meg - just in terms of some of the general ideas that Moriana suggests:

The main thrust conceptually re. Moriana is seeking to establish a clear view of the 'purpose' of this city; everything Calvino writes about it suggest that it is a luxurious 'pleasure-seekers' place - like somekind of resort city that exists as a form of escapism - but, as you say, like Medusa, if you look at it too long or stay there too long, you might end up trapped or desperate. I don't know how familiar you are with the legend of the Sirens?

It does seem as if Moriana is a) a city that is feminine in its character and b) a bit of a femme fatale for those unwary travellers who might fall too deeply into its charms!

In regards to your influence maps, I'm a bit confused by the relationship between your interior and exterior choices - as they just seem too different - I can absolutely see how Moriana might be as baroque and over-the-top as shown in your interiors... that level of decoration and 'conspicuous luxury' would certainly suit Calvino's impression:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baroque

Another art style associated with 'decadence' and 'luxury' (and also with the female form) is art nouveau:

My broad point is, as concept artist, you'll need to establish a visual style that chimes with the themes of Calvino's city - a style that signals some of the same messages in Calvino's text.

Evidently, your three paintings have an opportunity to 1) show Moriana as a wondrous, enchanting city - a playground for the rich etc...

and then 2) find a way of illustrate the 'two faces' - the seedy reality behind this city of dreams...

Your reading of this city is bang-on, so it's important you now find the visual means to communicate all of this accordingly.
