Maya Tutorial

Image
First Lesson of Maya learning the basics with the task to make a simple house at the end. I feel I was able grasp all that was taught to us in the first lesson and make the house with what we learnt. Looking forward to the lessons to come and seeing what else I'll be able to do with the software.

Master Studies

Image
This is what I was able to get out of my first Photoshop lesson learning the basics. I'm very happy with the results of all 3. Started of with the black and white, which turned out very well and then went into the two colours. I started with the view of the cliff side painting one that I am most happy with the outcome of and then lastly the view of the mountain, which could of used a bit more work on the trees but other than that I feel confident with the final design of these master studies.

Das Cabinet Des Dr. Caligari (1920) Movie Review

Image
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, also known as Das Cabinet Des Dr. Caligari (1920), is a German silent horror film, directed by Robert Wiene and written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer. The Film tells the story a hypnotist who uses a somnambulist, a sleep walker, to commit murders. The contorted sets, contrasting areas of light and dark lighting, and unique set design all feed into the films story within a story narrative. The use of the angular buildings within the city fuel the idea that the story is an expression of a lunatic’s perception of his own reality in which nothing that he is telling us is in fact true but rather a figment of his imagination. If we at look at what we believe to be the main antagonist; Dr. Caligari we can see major changes in his character progression near the end of the film starting of as a sideshow hypnotist. Caligari then goes to an insane asylum director trying to replicate the experiments of an 18th century mystic named Caligari to a madman who must...

Concept Drawing - Machine

Image
My final choice for my Machine drawing. Only using the image below as the base of the body and then implementing the other parts of the drawing going off by what I thought would make my idea look best I was able to come up with the concept of a mechanical robotic toy. Talked about in one of my earlier blogs along with another similar drawing made I wanted to expand on it more and refine the idea making the legs more accurate to that of a spiders but in a robot aesthetic and touching up on some of the line work. I will say that I enjoyed drawing this traditionally over digitally, in regards to the thumbnail drawing. However, I believe that this would be because I devoted more time in to the Front, Back and Side drawings than I did with the thumbnail and in the long run achieving a finished form for the concept. In conclusion though I stick to my thought brought up in my previous that I would definitely enjoy making a mini series of these tiny robotic toys.

Concept Drawing - Structure

Image
This would be the final idea chosen from my structure drawings. This one stood out the most to be as it incorporated the idea of using stairs or even escalators to get to the top of the structure. I used the high heels as the main body for it and used the fishing hook for aesthetic purpose. I'm quite happy with the way this one turned out and like this idea of a structure that is mainly for the purpose of getting somewhere, which is where the idea for the stairs or escalator came into play. 1st Image 2nd Image

Concept Drawing - Lifeform

Image
My final choice for my Lifeform drawing. Comprised of the images shown below I decided to use the 1st image as the body and visually cutting open the front of it to create the wings and then using the 2nd image as the tail of the lifeform one which is dangerous. This is was mainly inspired by the idea of Manta rays with the idea that they roam the skies instead of the sea and was probably by far my most favoured lifeform drawing that I drew because of the way it came out and the line work done to make it. I could definitely see this being a creature in a sci-fi setting. 1st image  2nd Image

Life Drawing Session 1

Image
Life Drawings done of the first week, Particularly proud of the tones that I was able to achieve in the first and last picture given that I had a bit more time to do them than the others. Last Life Drawing was an attempt at implementing Cubism into the drawing instead of going for realism. While it could use some work I happy with the way it turned out especially part of the tones I was able to get in their with the time I had.

Concept Drawing - Thumbnails 1 - 12

Image
Concept Drawings from he activity we were given over the summer. I especially enjoyed doing this as it allowed me to take multiple objects and put them together to create something completely different to what the original items were. I enjoyed these concept drawings and can definitely see some potential in the future for them as a mini series of creations. Number 4 and 10 especially so as the idea of these little tiny robotic toys with these slight facial expressions gave them the tiniest bit of sentience, which for me was quite amusing.
